ECTM (Cross-Cultural School of Missions): Ecuador

In alignment with OM Latin America's vision “to send well-prepared, Spirit-led Latinos to reconcile individuals to God, to make disciples where Christ is least known,” our vision is “To train, equip and mentor Christian men and women from the Andean Region and Latin America for missions providing spiritual disciplines, cross-cultural intelligence, and practical tools that will equip them to live and serve effectively in a cross-cultural environment to contribute to seeing vibrant communities of Jesus followers among the least reached.”

This is an intensive training & mentoring program to equip Christian men and women for missions, providing spiritual discipline, cross-cultural intelligence, and practical tools to prepare them to live and serve effectively in a cross-cultural environment, in order to contribute to teams world-wide.

Ministry Details

The Program is divided in three phases:

1) Intensive Teaching
190 hours of teaching to equip students for effective cross-cultural mission’s work challenging their intellect as well as encouraging them to grow in their Christian life and intimacy with God as they learn to grow and work in a multicultural team.

2) Practical Training/Outreach
Working with local churches with two objectives, serve the church and equip and mobilize them into evangelism and world missions

3) Spiritual Retreat/Seminar
A time for reflection away from the city and classroom setting.

Participant Profile

Our main target group is Christian Latinos who want to serve in missions; however, our training is open to people outside Latin America, as we believe that having an international team provides great opportunities for intercultural interaction. We also serve several church denominations. Through the years, as we have gained credibility, our training has been adopted by denominations such as the Christian and Missionary Alliance (among others) as the official training for their missionaries prior to their service. Furthermore, part of our curriculum has been used to develop a mission’s program at a local Bible Seminary.

  • Considering that our training is, in some modules, a one on one mentoring/training, we aim to train around 15 and no more than 20 students per school. Our objective is to hold the training twice a year depending on demand.

Accommodation

You will live in various shared accommodations organized by OM and within walking distance from our training facility. You will sleep in shared bedrooms on bunk beds. Men and women will have separate accommodations. Accommodation fees are included in the budget. During the practical, we will travel to different cities and our accommodation will vary with every church we work with.

Food

You will need to buy and cook your own food. The cost of all food is included in the course fees. We need to know in advance of any special dietary needs (vegetarian, dairy-free, food allergies, gluten free, etc.)

Travel

You will need to travel to Guayaquil, Ecuador. The airport is Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE). We do not recommend flying in to any other airport, as bus rides from one city to another are very long.

Health

Participants should be in good health and able to walk a reasonable distance without difficulty. If you think this requirement rules you out, talk to us and we will see what adjustments we may be able to make for you. Each participant is responsible to obtain appropriate emergency health and medical insurance.

Visa

Most participants will receive a 90 day tourist visa upon arrival. This will be discussed personally with each participant.
